Wow! What a week!!!! I am pretty sure that our play was the cutest play in the history of plays. Do you agree!? They were AMAZING!!!! We completed our play and we wrapped up our unit on insects...but don't worry! There is still more buggy fun to come. Our class pets should be starting their metamorphosis any minute! Check out some more awesome learning that took place this week.

After watching our butterfly song and reading many informational texts, we wrote our own insect reports.

Monday Learning

Happy Monday! We have many exciting things happening in Room 2! Our new sight words are "of/ out". We are continuing to study the letter "u" and practice "long u" sounds this week. Take a look at all of the learning we have done so far and it's only Monday :)

We serenaded our new class pets with a song about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We found so many sight words in our poem including "of and out"!

We did some great detective work "Writing the Room" by finding CVC words hidden all around Room 2!

We sorted short u words and long u words and then we even wrote our own lists.

We had a blast practicing our sight words by playing "musical sight words".

We even played "tic tac sight words"!

Some of us were "entomologists" and read informational texts about insects.

We wrote our own insect reports.

The Grouchy Ladybug

This week, we read "The Grouchy Ladybug" and we had a chance to dive into our emotions. We had very insightful conversations sharing our feelings about a time when we felt happy and a time when we felt grouchy! After writing these feelings, we recorded our writing and then made a cute animation of our mouths. You will really get a kick out of these videos. I wish I could have posted them all!

Continuing on  with our Grouchy Lady Bug theme, we had many other ladybug activities. We worked on building teen numbers in our counting lady bugs book. We learned about clocks this week and made our own clock books. Take a look at some of the snapshots and videos from the week :)

Mary said that I am grouchy when "I don't get what I want".  Aren't we all?!

Insects

We are underway on our insect unit and we have learned so many things already! Our new sight word this week is "said", so we watched the video to get us ready to find the word "said" in our sentences.

 We played "sight word swat" with our fly swatters!  Boy, did they love this game!

Dominick was a rock star reader, so he got to wear the google eyes to track his words.

We built sentences and used our bodies and sound effects to make the quotation mark symbol! Take a look below in this post, you will see us in action.

Here, we made "living sentences". We put our hands up to show a capital letter at the beginning of a sentences.

Since we are learning the word, "said", it's only natural to learn about quotation marks!

We read "Hey, Little Ant", and the students wrote "opinion" pieces on whether they would squish an ant or let him go! We had some very sympathetic friends!

Boy did we have a fun week! We got wet and wild with our water experiments. We learned a little about buoyancy with a 'sink or float' experiment and a foil boat building center! Check out these experiments and many more fun things we did this week.

We used some new science terms when we "predicted" which items would sink or float in the water.

Here is our boat building center! We each constructed our own foil boats and then tested which boat was the strongest by seeing how many pennies it would hold!

After our experiment, we scanned our transportation QR codes to watch an informational video clip about boats!

We "got smart" using our SMART table to engage in a transportation sorting activity.

We also practiced our short vowel awareness on the SMART table.

What better way to cap off the first part of our week, but to make water color boats. After we made our boats, we wrote in our journal using our new sight word "want", saying "I want to go to ______ in my boat".

Finally...my new favorite project...license plates! We learned all about transportation, so now we need a license plate to get on the road!

The "new" plates made an appearance too!

I just love this so much!!!
