Fe Fi Fo Learn!

We our dirt deep into our plants unit! Here are a few activities we have done. We read Jack and the Beanstalk, Tops and Bottoms and many informational texts about plants.
We practiced making combinations to 5 with our flower petals.

We sequenced the process of a plant from seed to flower.

We studied the different parts of a lima plant.

We planted our own "magical beans" just like Jack did.

The students worked as a team to make a giant walking story map. Each table worked on a different section of the map to retell Jack and the Beanstalk.
The students walked the story map as they retold the beginning, middle and end.

We wrote opinion pieces on whether Jack should or should not have taken the golden eggs from the giant. This student said "I think that Jack should not take the eggs because he could keep his own stuff and his mom just wanted money."

Another student took a different approach thinking of how he could help take care of his mom.
We played a "character hot seat" game after reading the story Tops and Bottoms. In this story, there are two main characters: a lazy bear and a tricky hare. Hailey pretended to be Hare and she had to defend herself against Bear for being a trickster. Lincoln pretended to be Bear and he had to explain to Hare why her actions were wrong!
Some of the quotes from their "argument" were: Hare saying, "You are just too lazy. I had to take the plants." Bear said, "If you would have just asked me, I would have given you some." Great acting ladies!

We tasted the WHOLE plant. We got to try the seeds, stem, flower, leaves and roots. We have some healthy eaters!

In math this week, we are studying length, weight and capacity. We soaked up some sun and hit up the sandbox to explore and estimate the capacity of different sized containers. We learned SO much during this lesson. We estimated and we learned how to measure using a measuring cup. We discussed the different lengths, depths and heights of the containers. We counted by 2's when we used our "2 cup" measuring cup and we did some basic addition to find the total number of scoops.
We had so much fun measuring the sand.

Oscar is carefully finding the "2 cup" mark.

Each group had a "recorder" who documented all of our results.

Rutabaga, Baked Potato and more!I

Wow! What a week!!!! I am pretty sure that our play was the cutest play in the history of plays. Do you agree!? They were AMAZING!!!! We completed our play and we wrapped up our unit on insects...but don't worry! There is still more buggy fun to come. Our class pets should be starting their metamorphosis any minute! Check out some more awesome learning that took place this week.

After watching our butterfly song and reading many informational texts, we wrote our own insect reports.

Met-a-mor-pho-sis...syllables and science oh so fun!

We played our own board games about the life cycle of a butterfly.

We used our new sight word QR codes to practice reading.

Lincoln is getting ready to "Q" it up ;)

We had an estimation station with Legos.

Who will be right?

We sharpened our measuring skills with caterpillar rules.

What better way to practice "doubles facts" than using the symmetry of a butterfly?

Monday Learning

Happy Monday! We have many exciting things happening in Room 2! Our new sight words are "of/ out". We are continuing to study the letter "u" and practice "long u" sounds this week. Take a look at all of the learning we have done so far and it's only Monday :)
Meet our new class pets! We would like to introduce you to: Rexy, Joe, Slider, Spikey and Cristal! Come back soon to watch us grow!

We serenaded our new class pets with a song about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We found so many sight words in our poem including "of and out"!

We did some great detective work "Writing the Room" by finding CVC words hidden all around Room 2!

Check out all of the words Averie found!

We sorted short u words and long u words and then we even wrote our own lists.

Wow! Look at those words!!

We had a blast practicing our sight words by playing "musical sight words".

We even played "tic tac sight words"!

Some of us were "entomologists" and read informational texts about insects.

We wrote our own insect reports.
