5 Senses Part 1

We kicked off our 5 Senses unit this week. We've read many books on our senses and tried many experiments. We used our sense of smell to guess what was hiding inside some "smell jars". We discovered some potent smells! We don't have any pictures, so you will have to use your imagination :)
We read the book "I Went Walking" and then we went on a "sight walk" to use our sense of sight.

After our walking adventure, we used our new sight word "can" to write about all of the things we saw!

Hailey is using her sense of hearing to try to guess what is making that noise inside the egg!

After reading a spooky Halloween book, we made our own "Hearing Houses" and wrote about spooky noises!

Look how cute they turned out!
Stay tuned for more 5 senses exploration!

Apples and More!

Hooray! We started our reading groups! One of the fun ways to review sight words that we've learned is to use our "i phones"! Students "typed" in each sight word that we've learned and then they wrote the word in the text box.

We studied the inside of apples and found the star! We did some apple painting and try to make the star appear when we painted.

We were scientists and did some apple experiments this week! We measured our apples, weighed them on a scale and predicted whether they would float or sink.

We made our own apple art and labeled the different parts of an apple.

We have been working with our sight words including our newest word - my.  We cut and paste mixed up sentences a and then practiced writing our own!

Our Letter S Video

Our first "Mystery Letter" visited us this morning! Here is our song that we sang about the letter "S"!
You will have your first "Mystery Letter Bag" assignment coming home today! Find an item at home that begins with the letter "S" and think of 3 clues to describe the item. Please write the clues or have your child write the clues on a small piece of paper. Place the object in a concealed bag and bring it tomorrow to share! Shhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone what it is!

Brown Bear Brown Bear

We have been studying colors and after reading many color stories including Pete the Cat, I Love My White Shoes, we celebrated by reading everyone's favorite"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See". Not surprisingly, many of the children were familiar with the story, so we acted it out too.

Each child got to play a part from the story and the class helped "read" each page.

Round 2! This time, we added a "page turner" and two "teachers" at the end :)

We made our own Brown Bear books. We practiced "tracking" the words with our fingers. This is a great book to build confidence in reading! This will come home in a few weeks.
