Community helper - Mrs. Gould

We were very lucky to have Mrs. Gould come to our class this week to talk about being a nurse!
She shared all of her special nurse tools and let the kids try out most of them!
Here she is listening to Dillon's heartbeat.

And Stella's turn..

Then she listened to Lincoln's lungs.
She also used her blood pressure cuff to check our blood pressure!

We asked lots of questions about what it's like to be a nurse and how she gets to help sick people.

Community Helpers!

We were excited to have our very first community helper come today and share her expertise with our students ! Dr. Azimpour taught us about her profession as a Microbiology professor at Moorpark College. We learned about a very important and relevant topic, GERMS!

Watch out! Here come the "germs"!

After a hand washing session, we tested our cleanliness with a special flashlight.

Did Mikey and Damyan catch all the germs?

Did Dominick or Lincoln have "germs" on their hands?

How did the littlest microbiologist do with her hand washing skills?
Thank you Dr. Azimpour for a great science experiment today!

Goldilocks

After studying all about real bears, we read about fictional bears in the stories: "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and "Ira Sleeps Over".  It was a pleasure to share Goldilocks with the children, as many of them had never heard it before! Here are just a few fun activities we did this week!
Here is a great "opinion writing piece" about our favorite character. How cute is that drawing?

Another "opinion piece" about Papa Bear being big and scary!
The girls are practicing retelling the story of Goldilocks in our cozy book nook.

We had a BLAST acting out Goldilocks in our costumes. Blake, Averie and Dom were our first bear family seeing if their porridge was ready, but it was too hot!

Mary sure made a cute Goldilocks!

Uh oh! They discovered Goldilocks sleeping in baby bear's bed!

We practiced our sequencing and retelling skills by ordering and writing about the story. Woah! That was a lot of work!

We had SO much fun acting, we had to do it again of course!
What a cute bunch of actors.
We used our bear houses to retell the story with partners.
Oscar and Nick got into character.

Monday Happenings!

Happy Monday! We are off to a great week of learning, beginning with the letter "o"! Ask your child to tell you the "secret story" about the letter o and the two sounds she can make when she is  in disguise or when she is being a super hero!

The students were word detectives playing our new Boggle wall game!
We practiced our sight words by playing memory.

We made "short o" books.

We found and wrote about short o words.

We started a new math chapter today about number stories. We acted out number stories and told them to each other as we solved them.

We got exercise while we practiced our sight words during our sight word fitness video.

Today, during music, the students practiced retelling literature with instruments!
