Butterflies

We've had a busy week filled with learning about caterpillars and butterflies! We have our very own caterpillars in Room 2 and we are waiting patiently for them to get ready to build their chrysalis.

Here are a few of this week's activities.
We read the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and the students made their own caterpillar with the letters in their last names.
We graphed the food that the caterpillar eats in the story and talked about which day he ate the most and how much he ate altogether.
We used our special caterpillar rulers to measure all sorts of things in our classroom including our bodies!

We learned about metamorphosis and made our own version of the life cycle of a butterfly using noodles.

We talked about how butterflies wings have symmetry. The students had to draw the other half of this butterfly and do their best to make the sides symmetrical. This was super tough and they did so great! Then we labeled the parts of the butterfly using the words we've learned during our insects unit.

Dr. Seuss Week

We met with our 3rd grade study buddies and read our Dr. Seuss books together.

We had lots of fun using rhyming words in our work. Each student made their own silly rhyming version of Green Eggs and Ham.
Owen likes to eat green eggs and pizza.

Natalia likes to eat green eggs and bacon.

We worked as a team to build word families using the Cat in the Hat red and white hats and then the kids wrote the rhyming words on their papers.

We read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and then made our own fishbowl with a fish math sentence.

We had a special visitor thanks to Larkins mom - the Easter bunny came to visit our classroom!

Such a fun-filled and special week!

Leprechaun traps!!!

It will soon be St. Patricks day and those sneaky leprechauns will be up to their old tricks!  Leprechauns like to sneak around, make messes and play tricks on people. Your family's job is to build a leprechaun trap so we can try to catch one in our classroom!!! We will be setting up our traps on Monday, March 16.

Transportation

We had more community helpers come and visit us this week!

K-9 Rene and his police officer came to mates on Thursday. We learned that Rene speaks German so the officer gives all of his commands in German!

We had some "tooth fairy" visitors from the dentists office come and talk to us about cleaning our teeth and healthy eating.

In class we have been learning about all types of transportation from cars to boats to planes.
We labeled the parts of a car and made our own cars and said where we would go in our cars.
Finn can go to the beach.

Will can go to the fire station.

We made vehicles to add to our community map.

We made our own planes that are flying around in Room 2.

Community Helpers

We started our unit on maps and community helpers this week!
We were lucky to have two special presenters - our own Mrs. Capell came to talk with the class about being a chiropractor and how to keep our bodies healthy by eating healthy foods.

We also had a visitor from the sheriffs department bomb squad who shared his robot and special uniform with us.

We even got to go on the truck!

We have been working hard in our classroom this week creating our own maps and talking about what we want to be when we grow up.

Each child made a building for our community map. We will continue adding to this map during our transportation unit as well.

We have quite a group of community helpers - from teachers to shopkeepers to construction workers! Below Zach wants to be a paleontologist and Manar wants to be a doctor!
